The Friesian or Friesian horse is one of the oldest horse breeds in Europe. It is a Dutch horse breed that originated in the province of Friesland and today is bred in purebred without foreign blood crossing. Since 1879, the Friesch-Paarden Stamboek, the official studbook of the breed, has been kept. The seat of the studbook is Drachten. Friesians were named after their homeland, Friesland in the Netherlands, and are one of the oldest horse breeds in Europe. They have a characteristic black coat coloring, a magnificent mane and a handsome tail. Another highlight of Friesians is the long hair on their legs.
